History of the Bed & Breakfast
in the early 1870's, Stephen Long, a wealthy local farmer, was resolute on building a home that would become the showpiece of the community. His determination resulted in what is truly one of Honey Brook's Victorian gems.

The home remained in the Long family until 1930. An addition was built on the rear of the house in 1930 when it was purchased by the Eppenheimer family, who remained as residents until 1998 A formal kitchen was added much later. The rest of the interior remains much the same as it was years ago. We are the 4th owners of the home.

Extensive restoration work has been undertaken to preserve and highlight the Victorian character of this home. The thick limestone walls are capped with ornately decorated gable ends. A new slate roof and a fresh paint design grace the exterior. Inside, rich chestnut and mahogany woodwork line the spacious rooms. Hardwood floors, thick, hand carved doors, and original period fireplaces are a few of the fine architectural features throughout the house. Outside, you'll see the town's largest Rhododendron bush. It blooms in late May in 2 separate blooms, and 2 different shades of purple. The perennial gardens are always a work in progress. The gardens bloom from Spring through early Autumn.

In 2001 we purchased the home and in 2004 we decided to open it to the public. We want to share our home with people who appreciate history, architecture and are looking for a quiet, relaxed atmosphere to spend several nights.




Clifford and Oscar
Two of the permanent residents of The Cherished Pearl are Clifford and Oscar, our housecats. Clifford is very affectionate and makes a point of investigating each new arrival. Don't worry about his missing ear, his hearing is just fine. Oscar is a bit shyer, so don't be offended if he prefers not to visit with you. If you are allergic to cats, we will be happy to suggest other fine accomodations in the area.
