Here at the Cherished Pearl Bed & Breakfast, we strive to provide our guests with an enjoyable stay while still doing our part to conserve energy and protect the environment. We hope that our guests will join our efforts while staying with us, perhaps even taking a few ideas home with them.
Steps we take to encourage a green environment:
Recycling of paper/tin/plastics is promoted
Water temperature kept at minimum of 120 degrees
Water pressure runs at a slow pace using less water per minute
Thermostat is turned back when guests are not here to conserve energy
Thermostat has 4 controls to set at different temperatures 24/7
Organic or local fresh farm produce used frequently
Both outside and inside storm windows have been added for energy efficiency
New slate roof that will last possibly 100 plus years
Energy efficient LED bulbs used throughout the bed and breakfast
Dimmer switches and timers used throughout guest and common areas
Carbon monoxide monitors to ensure guests' safety
Donate quality items not being used anymore to local Salvation Army, Goodwill stores, and to community reuse-it shops
Reuse plastic/paper bags for trash liners
Thermal window shades and blinds used to help regulate temperature
Local parks, Amish/Mennonite farmland, and historic buildings & towns offer guests a wealth of things to do without exploiting the environment
